Molly Ann Tango
Memorial Foundation
The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs and their families. The Foundation helps finance the purchase of much-needed medical equipment and services when insurance is exhausted and other social programs are not available. In addition to financial support, the Foundation helps families navigate the medical and social communities to find the products and services that will specifically meet their needs.
Covenant Preparatory School of Hartford
Covenant Preparatory School opened in 2008 in order to meet the educational needs of under-served families. The school partners with students, families, staff and volunteers to form a pact, or covenant, to fulfill the mission of the school. Parents are an active part of the school. Funding for the school comes from individual donors, foundations, corporate sponsorships and grants. Covenant Prep provides young men from underserved communities the foundation required to successfully pursue higher education, to develop the strength of their character and to inspire them to live with integrity as leaders committed to their communities
The Miracle League
of Connecticut
In 2012 a seed was planted in the special needs community when The Miracle League of CT opened the very first fully accessible baseball field in New England. 30 players including Johnny Moran, played baseball on that field the first year. The program now draws over 160 players each year from all over the state. What has blossomed beyond baseball has been incredible.

Today, Miracle League of CT programs include Everybody Dance Now, iCan Bike, We’re Putting on a Show, Super Sports Saturdays, MLCT Adapted Swim Lessons, Sibshops, and many others, all adapted to meet the unique needs of the children and families that they serve.

In 2022 The Miracle League of CT will celebrate 10 years of making a difference. By removing the barriers that prevent children with special needs from participating in activities we all take for granted for typically developing children, the Miracle League of CT advocates for their motto – “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play.”
The Sunflower Kids Program at Connecticut Children’s
The Sunflower Kids Program at Connecticut Children’s provides an extra layer of support to patients and their families facing potentially life-limiting or chronic illnesses. Our team helps with pain and symptom management, goals of care conversations, and care coordination. We aim to make each day as good as it can be.
Recognized throughout the hospital as the Sunflower Kids Team, aptly named in honor of sunflowers, the most resilient of all flowers. Sunflowers grow and flourish in any kind of soil, demonstrating resilience and grace just like the incredible patients and families we have the privilege of working with. On the days when the sun is not shining, sunflowers lean towards each other for support. We think of our team leaning in to provide support to our patients, their families and fellow staff members alike.
Established in 2014, we have provided consultation and support to over 500 patients and families throughout our medical community. What began as an advanced care grant a decade ago has grown into a program that works with patients and families with palliative care needs in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The influence of the Sunflower Kids Program extends beyond Connecticut Children’s into the community where we serve as a resource for referring pediatricians and outside medical institutions and community agencies. Our team members serve on a Governor appointed committee defining healthcare priorities for the state of Connecticut and we are working to establish a coalition for pediatric palliative care here in Connecticut. Whether our goal is cure or comfort, it is thanks to the kindness of organizations like Johnny’s Jog, that just like sunflowers, the work of the Sunflower Kids program will continue to grow and weather whatever soil lies ahead.
